Sarah Compton, PhD

Sarah’s academic background in igneous petrology, high-temperature geochemistry, and linear inversions of numerical models combines with her professional background in product management, petroleum geology, geochemistry, and data analytics to provide a broad base of experience.

Sarah got her BS and MS in geology at IUPUI studying igneous petrology in southern and southeastern California. She moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama and earned her PhD from the University of Alabama in geology/geodynamics using linear inversions to understand the effects of inputs in finite element models of the 2000 eruption of Hekla Volcano in Iceland.

Sarah has worked for companies like Noble Energy (now Chevron), IHS Markit (now S&P Global Platts), Liberty Oilfield Services (now Liberty Energy), Terra Guidance, and Great Western Petroleum, whose purchase by PDC precipitated her entrance into the consulting world. She was clawed back to corporate by Intelligent Wellhead Systems with an interesting shift into a bigger business focus with product management, but had achieved what she could with them and entered back into the world of consulting.

On the weekends, she can be found playing in the mountains of Colorado either camping with her husband and two kids, in a creek bed panning for gold,  or outside her garage picking up her barbell and putting it back down again.
